I'm getting a little nauseous from the the delay between me typing a character and it appearing on screen (0.5 - 1.0 seconds? Not sure) would it be possible to have this customisable?

There is no delay when typing characters. My guess is that CRT is not using graphical acceleration so it's just very very slow on your system for unknown reasons. Could you try running it with the environmental variable QSG_INFO=1?
