It means I press a hotkey, and I’ll be on the terminal if I’m not already;
Otherwise, I’ll return to the app that had focus before coming to the
terminal.

You mean switching between windows in your OS? Or switching between running processes within the CLI? You can do both already

I mean switching between windows in my os, but not with the built-in os
method. See the hotkey window feature of iTerm.
